Defeat against Kelso

Kelso were the visitors for a match against Selkirk A on Tuesday 28th, and they came away with a 4-0 victory against the home team. We sometimes say that the games were closer than you might imagine, and in this case they most certainly were. Ian Thompson, facing a 333 Elo deficit against Ian Whittaker, played excellent and tenacious chess until eventually losing. Kevin Poulton v Alan Armstrong saw an even greater deficit in favour of the Kelso player (574 points!) but despite an early loss of material, it looked for a time that Kevin would hold the position. But it was not to be, and Selkirk A suffered a 4-0 defeat.

In other news, Alan Miles and Keith Robinson have drawn their 4th round BICC tie. We may have that game for you next week.

As you can see, we occupy a fairly spacious room above the main bar of the Town Arms. It is a friendly club, and we always welcome new chessplayers.
