17 Dec 2024: Curry night at the Taste of Spice
A very successful curry night was held on Tuesday 17 Dec, when in addition to eating excellent food we managed to discuss (i) a little chess (ii) encrypted hard drives (iii) football and (iv) traffic problems in Edinburgh, etc etc. A good night out. Here are the people who attended.
30 July 2024: 10 seconds a move in the Town Arms
The annual lightning tournament was held in the Town Arms in Tuesday night, and despite it being in the summer we got 8 entrants, who all thoroughly enjoyed the evening. It was even more sociable than usual as Sam Cornwell had brought along some mini-wraps and pies from Robbie Pringle the butcher. Good food, and definitely recommended.
John Moore and Mark Gardiner shared first place on 6/7, and Dave Bogle came third on 5/7.
04 Jun 2024: latest results from Selkirk Championship
04 Jun 2024: the 7th round match between Dave Bogle and Alan Miles ended in a draw, and so Dave won the inaugural Selkirk Championship with 6 points from 7 games. Dave also gets to keep "Nick's Trophy" (donated by Nick Duffell's widow) for one year.
The tournament has been very popular, and thanks must go to Kevin Poulton for organising it and recording all the results - and uploading them to Chess Scotland for grading purposes.
