07 Feb 2024: An apology from the editor

So I sourced this photo of a man playing chess, had a quick look to check that the bottom right hand squares were white, and then uploaded it. What I didn't spot at the time was that (i) the board is the wrong way round, so that a8 is labelled h1, and (ii) Black's King and Queen are switched round. What the hell is wrong with photographers? Is it beyond them to check with a chess player? Even more astonishing... the photographer is Russian! Dear oh dear. Another photo to add to my collection of erroneously set-up chess boards.

07 Feb 2024: NHS v Kelso; BICC results

A result against the gradings last Wednesday, when the visiting Kelso team lost 3-1 at the BGH to NHS.  A good result for NHS, who were outgraded on three of the four boards.

In the third round of the Borders Individual Minor section John Moore and Ally McGilvray drew their match, while Logan Symons defeated Kevin Poulton. The updated table is below.

The home of Selkirk Chess Club

Selkirk Chess Club meet every Tuesday at 7pm in the Town Arms, just off Selkirk Square.  We do not meet in the bar itself but in the upstairs function room, and are there most Tuesdays unless we are playing away matches (a list of matches is on this page...).

As you can see, we occupy a fairly spacious room above the main bar of the Town Arms. It is a friendly club, and we always welcome new chessplayers.
