Final league game: Selkirk B away to NHS

Selkirk B took on the NHS team this week for the second week in a row.   NHS again defaulted on Board 4, but with Dave Bogle and John Moore both losing their games on boards 1 and 2 respectively, it was up to Alan Miles on board 3 to save the day.  This he did by defeating Logan Symons, and so the final team result was a 2-2 draw.   Full details and the O'Donnell game are on the Matches page.

Stasys Gimbutis is Champion; playoff in 2nd section

Stasys Gimbutis secured the Borders Individual Championship on Saturday 30 April by defeating Selkirk player Dave Bogle in their 5th round match. The NHS captain played with great accuracy in a complex game, and totally deserved the win.  In the meantime Selkirk's Martin Keen has drawn his 5th round match with Martin Wallace.

There is still one game to be played in the Premier section (Whittaker-Armstrong) but it will not affect the championship. The Bogle-Gimbutis and Keen-Wallace games are on the Matches Page.

The result of the second section is a tie, after Nick Duffell and John Moore drew their 5th round match.  There will be a playoff between Nick and Cameron Carter, who both ended up on 3½ points.

In the above crosstables, the digit before the decimal point refers to the round, and the digits after the point indicate the result: eg 5.10 = a win in the 5th round.

New blog feature

We're redesigning the blog pages, and the first change is the addition of pages dedicated to players in the Borders League. We kick off the new series with pages on Stasys Gimbutis and Keith Aitchison, and more will follow shortly. In the meantime, if you would like a page about yourself, then please send very brief biographical details and two of your best wins.
