both teams in league action this week
Both Selkirk A and Selkirk B were involved in league battles this week: on Tuesday 17th May a mixup meant that the visiting Gala team had to default on boards 1 to 3, thus giving Selkirk A a 3-0 start. The only Gala player (Keith Robinson) avoided the whitewash by defeating Alan Miles on board 4.
On Wednesday 18th May, Selkirk B travelled to the BGH to take on NHS, who had already given notice of a default on Board 4. The match turned out disappointingly for Selkirk, with both Dave Bogle and Cameron Carter losing their games, to John O'Donnell and Logan Symons respectively. However, John Moore saved a half-point by drawing against Stasys Gimbutis, despite a 143 grading deficit.
Full details and the Bogle-O'Donnell game are on the Matches page.
Stasys Gimbutis is Champion; playoff in 2nd section
Stasys Gimbutis secured the Borders Individual Championship on Saturday 30 April by defeating Selkirk player Dave Bogle in their 5th round match. The NHS captain played with great accuracy in a complex game, and totally deserved the win. In the meantime Selkirk's Martin Keen has drawn his 5th round match with Martin Wallace.
There is still one game to be played in the Premier section (Whittaker-Armstrong) but it will not affect the championship. The Bogle-Gimbutis and Keen-Wallace games are on the Matches Page.
The result of the second section is a tie, after Nick Duffell and John Moore drew their 5th round match. There will be a playoff between Nick and Cameron Carter, who both ended up on 3½ points.

In the above crosstables, the digit before the decimal point refers to the round, and the digits after the point indicate the result: eg 5.10 = a win in the 5th round.
New blog feature
We're redesigning the blog pages, and the first change is the addition of pages dedicated to players in the Borders League. We kick off the new series with pages on Stasys Gimbutis and Keith Aitchison, and more will follow shortly. In the meantime, if you would like a page about yourself, then please send very brief biographical details and two of your best wins.
